How to Play Craps
Craps is one of the most distinctive games in a casino and one of the most animated and exciting. Most other game tables are rather sedate even when people are winning. You may get the occasional whoop from a slots player who wins big but when a craps table is hot the entire table is excited. Because of this, it is one of the most fun games to play in a casino and is also one of the fastest games to play. It is played at a table with two dice. The object of the game is to bet on the results of the throw of the dice.
There are numerous betting options available and most people play more than one bet at a time. For this reason, craps can be rather complicated and somewhat intimidating, especially for someone new to the game. However, it is not as difficult as it may seem and there are plenty of people available to help you out. The more you play, the better you will become at it. But, it is also not the least expensive casino game to play so you may want to watch a bit and get a feel for the table before jumping in. It is, however, best to start out with some basic betting.
Craps Game Layout
Before starting you should be familiar with the layout of the table, the players and the casino workers. The middle of the table is where the box man and stick man are placed opposite each other. The box man takes the money and supervises while the stick man calls out results and organizes the game, handing the dice to the player with a stick. The middle of the table is also where the one roll and hard way bet options are laid out.
On each side are dealers who take and distribute bets. Players surround the sides of the table. There are pass and no pass lines marked on the table. Pass lines are for those who are betting with the shooter and no pass are for those against. Each side of the table also has identical betting options for wagering on the number that will come up from a throw. The player who is shooting rolls the dice and what comes up determines who wins or loses their particular bets.
Basic Craps Betting
There are various types of bets you can place. However, most people who are starting out simply begin with a pass bet. You are hoping the shooter does well. The shooter starts out with a come out roll. If seven or eleven are rolled, it is an automatic win. If two, three or twelve are shot, it is an automatic lose also known as craps. If any other number appears, though, the object is to continue rolling to try to get that same number without hitting seven. If the shooter gets the come out number before hitting a seven, it is a winning bet. If a seven is hit, it is a losing bet. This is all there is to pass betting. The same player continues to shoot until he “sevens out”. Regardless of whether there is an automatic win or loss on the come out roll, until there is a starting point that is not met before a seven is rolled, the player continues to shoot.
