How to Play Blackjack
Blackjack is an easy to learn game that is a classic in casinos. Blackjack is also known as “twenty one” because the object of the game is to have a hand that does not exceed twenty one. Players bet on their hands and play against the dealer as opposed to each other. If you can beat the dealer’s hand, you win. Blackjack is played with one to eight standard decks of fifty two cards. Number cards count for their face vale, face cards count as ten points and the ace can either count as a one or eleven. In casinos, these cards are usually shuffled using a shuffling machine and dealt from a shoe, a box where the cards are stored and dealt one at a time.
Blackjack Game Play
The blackjack table is a semi circle with all the players sitting around the semi circle and the dealer at the opposite side. There are usually table minimum and maximum bets so you can sit at a table where you feel you can comfortably bet without going over budget. The first thing you do is put in your initial bet. In a casino the dealer deals one card face up to each player at the table and one card face down for himself. The next round the dealer deals all cards face up. So, the dealer has one card face up and one card face down.
After all the cards are dealt, then additional cards can be dealt if needed. Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, the player can choose to stand or keep the cards that were dealt. He can also choose to hit or get an additional card as often as necessary. In order to hit, the player should tap the table. To stand the player passes his hand over his cards. However, remember that you should never touch the cards yourself.
Basic Blackjack Strategy
It is a good rule of thumb to assume the dealer’s face down card is a ten and wager accordingly from there. If you reach seventeen, it is a good idea to stand and anything less than that to hit. Twenty one is blackjack and an automatic win if the dealer does not also have that. If the dealer has a better hand than you, dealer wins. If you have a better hand than the dealer, you win and if there is a tie, it is called a push and nobody wins or loses.
Blackjack Advanced Options
You can double down which is typically done if you have a ten or eleven already. You double your bet and you only get a single card dealt. The object is to get blackjack and double your bet. You can also split which is typically done when you have two of the same card such as aces. The one hand is turned into two separate hands to play. You have better odds then of getting two blackjacks.
Blackjack is another game that has lower house odds if you play with a sound strategy and pay attention to the cards on the table. As with all gambling there is some amount of guess work, luck and hunches that are played and sometimes pay off well. However, if you minimize the hunches and work with solid blackjack principles, you should fare pretty well at the tables.
